Steve Hicks and Matt Galas are two of the most renowned researchers of HEMA and historical manuals. Today they announced they have located a rare Portugese manuscript, presenting a new lineage of the Historical European martial arts, but with at least some similarities with the Italian tradition.
The two researchers have been tracking down a Portugese manuscript from 1599 for six months, an effort that connects to their previous encounters with the Portugese martial tradition of the middle ages. The 200 pages of the manuscript contains several different types of weapons and includes the Montante, which is a two-handed sword.

Exactly what this manual contains is too early to say, but it is relatively rare that new manuscripts surface like this and it poses an opportunity for a new perspective on HEMA.
